This lovely area of the city is always full of action for out of town visitors and residents alike. You’ll be interested in these pieces of news whether you live in the area, are a tourist here for a weekend, or like one of our furnished apartment clients, have lived here for a few months and want to just walk around Yorkville and discover new things.
The first piece of news will affect the jean-lovers out there – Over The Rainbow is moving! The trendy shop that’s been around since 1975 and has managed to stay relevant for all these years will be moving!

The ugly 1980’s outdoor mall at 101 Yorkville Avenue, where it is currently located will be getting a much-needed facelift soon and as a result all the businesses are moving out. The announced date of move is in 2018, and it really feels like this cool store that always felt like a one-off family owned business is moving into the big leagues, with the move into the Manulife Centre. Now it’ll be right on Bloor Street and near the soon-to-be Eataly!
Second, we noticed recently that the Steak House NAO on Avenue Road has closed! NAO never quite seemed to catch on and was always seemingly empty, has shut down. Not much of a surprise there – a new restaurant has taken its place and it’s called Estia – it looks like it is the same owners (Hanif Harji and Charles Khabouth) who are famous in Toronto for their clubs and restaurants, and have transformed the restaurant. We are excited because it’s now a Mediterranean place, which is sorely lacking in this city. The food is ‘Inspired by the regions of Greece, Southern Italy and Spain’ – it sounds great! We’ll let you know when we’ve tried it out.
We’ll keep you posed on other neighbourhood news soon!
